ZAMRA scales up awareness on Allied Substances in Muchinga and Northern Provinces.
With the regulatory activities on Allied Substances gaining momentum, the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) embarked on a planned awareness and sensitization campaign in Nakonde, Muchinga province and Kasama, Northern Province through its Allied Substances Unit from the 21st to the 31st of August, 2023.
This was in response to numerous inquiries on the requirements on various product categories from its stakeholders, and the resolve by the Authority to raise knowledge levels about Allied Substances and its regulatory role.
In order to achieve this, ZAMRA held engagement meetings with it’s stakeholders in the two towns to enlighten them on, among other important things, their responsibility in ensuring that safe, efficacious and quality Allied Substances are availed to the public.
The team also took time to sensitise the public through interactive radio programmes on Chete FM in Nakonde and Radio Mano in Kasama respectively.
Some of the topics covered during the stakeholders and public engagement included;
- ZAMRA as a regulatory Authority by Mr Frank Laban: Principal Regulation Officer – Medicines and Allied Substances
- The regulation of Medical Devices by Mr Kapunda Masuwa: Registration Officer – Medical Devices
- The regulation of Nutrition Supplements, Antiseptics and Disinfectants by Mr Victor Mpundu: Registration Officer – Allied Substances
- The regulation of Cosmetics by Ms Cynthia Mtonga: Registration Officer – Cosmetics
- Post Market activities – Importation of Allied Substances, Vigilance and Advertising by Mr Denson Kalimba: Inspector, Kasama ZAMRA and Mr Frank Laban
The enactment of the Medicines and Allied Substances act (NO.3) of 2013 ensures the regulation of Allied Substances by ZAMRA. Allied Substances include products like, nutrition supplements, medical devices and cosmetics.
